Live in Belief

((( Cultivation )))

Description

"Live in Belief" unites four leading curatorial teams to create a cultural venue where design, music, and performance arts converge as an immersive emotional journey.

Co-curated by Lim Giong, "Live in Belief" characterizes the Sound of Taiwan. 22 live performances, each rich with culture and local reverberations, explore the interplay of languages, a new take on Beiguan music, the love of the land, and the expressive power of traditional instruments. The interplay of old and new fills the air—Taiwanese traditional music is integrated into the pulse of a DJ mix; Western melodies resonate in temple halls; classical music weaves its way into everyday life; and Beiguan opera meets contemporary sounds to spark fresh interpretations. These sounds from Changhua convey the emotions of daily life and the memory of the land, encompassing Tâi-gí, electronic, classical, and folk genres. They express the younger generation's connection to their homeland, and serve as a bridge between tradition and the present.

Each rendition carries the culture forward while reshaping it.

Each encounter sparks an immediate, dynamic resonance.

In the performances, culture takes form—not as something fixed from the past, but as an energy constantly evolving.

Co-curator

Lim Giong

Born in Changhua, Lim Giong's earliest encounter with music was through his father's love for Japanese enka. In 1990, he rose to fame with the song "Marching Forward," which pioneered a new era for Tâi-gí music with its rock arrangement. In 1996, he composed the score for director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's film Goodbye South, Goodbye, earning his first Golden Horse Award for Best Original Film Song upon his first nomination. Later, Lim Giong gradually transitioned from a pop music idol to an original musician, and has since won numerous Golden Melody Awards and Golden Horse Awards for Best Original Film Score. The soundtrack he produced for The Assassin also received the Cannes Soundtrack Award in France.
