Amid Taiwan's manufacturing transformation, Changhua—a long-standing hub of contract manufacturing—is exploring how to carry forward its deep-rooted craftsmanship toward a future of innovation and sustainability.
"BOLD" brings together nine manufacturers from Changhua (Taiwan) and Hyogo (Japan), in collaboration with designers across various fields. Through international co-creation and the crowdfunding platform zeczec, the project reimagines traditional manufacturing as new proposals for modern lifestyles. "BOLD" not only symbolizes the depth and heritage of craftsmanship, but also reflects the courage to embrace the unknown and the challenges of product innovation. These locally rooted industries are no longer just contract manufacturers in the global supply chain—they are becoming catalysts for creativity and transformation.
This exhibition is part of the "COC Urban Industry Innovation Plan," launched by the Industrial Development Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and implemented by the Taiwan Design Research Institute. Through collaboration between designers and manufacturers, the project redefines production processes, products, and user experiences, and positions manufacturing not just as a manifestation of craft but also as a platform for exploring and shaping future lifestyles.
